Murking My Way Through Battlefield 2042 in My First FPS

Welcome to the Battlefield!

Battlefield 2042 is an online first person shooter (FPS) first released in November 2021 on all major platforms. I came to it relatively late in the its life cycle; when it became a free PS Plus game in March 2023. It’s not the first in the Battlefield series but it’s my first drop into the franchise.

There is no campaign to the game. Instead, you discover the story through an initial opening cut scene, reading character backgrounds and hints recently added across loading screens. Battlefield includes several different game modes including Breakthrough, Team Deathmatch, Rush, etc. with a number of different maps. Lobby and map size change depending on which mode you run.

As a chronic migraine sufferer, I’ve always struggled with FPSs.

More often than not, I can’t even play first person games because they make me sick. Or I can only play them for a short period before getting a headache. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only can I handle playing this… I’m halfway decent at it too!

This is the first game, in my decades of playing, where I’ve achieved a 1.0 K/D ratio from the start! That may seem average to a lot of people (shit, it really is just average!) but it’s a goal I’ve been working on for years. One I’m proud to have reached. What’s even better… that number is consistently rising. I can’t wait to see where it will settle so I can set the next goal!

This game reminds me of Dust514 (PS3), the first online game I ever played. While the setting is very different, the play style and classes are similar. Back then, I played the stereo-typical medic. That’s all women playing shooters could do right?

Well, once upon a time, that was very true for me. I’m not ashamed to say it, because that was where my online gaming journey began. Before that it was platformers, side scrollers and puzzle games for me. Online was a completely different world. I didn’t know how to play with a team, I didn’t know tactics and I sure as hell couldn’t shoot! Thankfully, times have changed. I’ve learned from a lot of good – and bad! – players over the years. I’ve made my own mistakes too, but more than anything, I’ve learned and grown as a player.

Living the Assault Medic Life!

Now I run medic or support almost exclusively. It is a choice. My choice. I like being the support. I like looking after my team like a virtual mama bear, and I do so knowing that I can also run it as an assault class. I can heal you, give you ammo crates, get you back in the game and defend your ass while you adjust and get your bearings back! It’s a well rounded play style that benefits the team.

Check out the numbers in the screenshot below.

Stats as of June 2023

Just a few short months into the game and that’s over 6000 revives! That’s over 6000 people downed by the enemy team that I got back in the game. Over 14,000 teammates resupplied and over 171,000 teammates healed. That is a lot of ammo and stims thrown at teammates who needed it! Keeping teammates alive, supplied and fighting, wins games. I have a hand in that, and that’s kinda cool.

Overall I’m really enjoying this game. Zero stress. Easy going. Fun. I’m not going to say it’s my favourite, but it sure is fun for a stress free evening of murking!

Battlefield 2042 Streams

The following streams are from our Friday-Highday game nights! These streams are rated 18+ due to a whole lot of inuendo & even more swearing. We may also be drunk & or legally high. If you don’t like that stuff… don’t watch!
